COLORING A COMIC PAGE

01-creating ‘flats’

Before coloring a comic, it’s standard practice to ‘flat’ the page. This process, called, ‘flatting,’ is simply creating a layer in photoshop that contains outlines of all the objects in a scene. It is similar to coloring in a coloring book. The layer sits below the line art and allows a colorist to quickly grab elements of the page to color and adjust.
